So this week I've been looking for the right ingredients because some of them you have to get them at foreign stores and I might have to order them online. Either I improvise or change the recipe. I found some but they are an hour away. This has been a problem for me but I'm hoping I can substitute ingredients. I have found places who have it very inexpensive.
I found a store I just hopes it authentic and not trying to take my money. When i was looking at some of the ingredients I found some in Walmart so I'm glad I don't have to go to far. Others its very difficult to the point that i might have to change the whole recipe. Or i will have to use substitutes for it which is fine but i would like to use authentic recipes. I have also been researching the different spices and things that were used in some of the recipes. I didn't know what Hoisin was till I looked it up and its a sweet spicy red sauce. Ive never heard of rice flour either so I'm just learning new things everyday. I didn't know what lemongrass was. Its also called Cymbopogon and its called that because of its scent. They also have rice vinegar which was very interesting and I can't wait to start cooking.

This week I've been researching recipes that I should prepare. I've picked at least ten that sound interesting to me. I'm going to do one a week and I'm going to learn where it came from and how it came to be. Who created it and why did they do it? I plan to study each recipe to I can learn as much as I can.
I am going to list some of the recipes right here and give a light description on what they are. My first is the Banana Roti. Banana Roti is made with condensed milk and powdered sugar. its very fragile and comes in different colors, Sichuan Green Beans which is dry fried beans with spices. Honey Sesame Chicken which is tender and will have a sweet taste to it. Also it sounds really good. My other recipes are a Mango and Coconut Mousse. The flavors sound like they'ed work well together. Popiah which is a fresh spring roll. More recipes are Thick Apam Balik which is a Malaysian Peanut Pancake Turnover. Ais Tingkap a sherbet made out of rose syrup. Marinated Shrimp. I love shrimp. Bakmi Goring with Chicken is basically stir fried noodles. Stir Fried mixed vegetable cause I've always wanted to make it from scratch. This is all the recipes I am going to make. This projects about increasing my knowledge and skills about cooking. My goal is to be able to insert the new foods into my life and families life. Ive always loved to cook or watch my mom cook since I was a little kids. I have always thought it was interesting how you could mix these ingredients together and create a whole new thing. Then you use heat to bake it. Which makes it better and so you don't get sick. Im going to research different cultures and there foods and see how they are made.
Im going to be researching Japanese, Asian any culture I can find or sounds interesting to me. Then I'm going to create and see if i did the recipe right. I haven't really had the drive to do this but I feel like this could help me learn. and now I can do it for a school project. Plus I have to do it so yay. After I research I will be getting in to the fun stuff. COOKING!!! After this project is finished I'm going to teach family friends and get opinions. Also this will help me to see what i need to improve. I'm hoping this project works out or I'm going to be sad. I just want this to be fun buts its already so stressful. At the end of this i can show the class what I learned. They'll be able to learn too. |
